Would any one be interested in potentially joining a server for Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who? Someone I know is in the process of putting one together and we’re starting the process of putting out feelers.

It would be 18+ (for the sake of avoiding any of the difficulties that can come with letting minors come into the space) and the server is to be organized into channel ‘clusters’ for each of the fandoms involved, with the individual channels being for the different eras of each respective fandom.

And there is a separate section for creatives - be it fanart or fanfic, made by the people in the server or found on the outside. (as you can catch at the top of this screen cap).

So, if that grabs your interest, feel free to respond to this post in any way you like

Bad news from the Who merchandise front: Big Chief Studios, makers of detailed licensed figures that has included a number of Doctor Who-related releases including Twelfth Doctor and Clara, is going out of business and it looks like people who paid deposits (some in the thousands of pounds, it seems) are having some issues right now.

Apparently at least one other company doing Who merch is also going under (it’s mentioned in the discussion under the above news story but it’s not a name I recognize).

Of course the debate is over whether the divisive and destructive era that just ended is to blame (see the comments on the article). I won’t call it the only reason (the figures were hellish expensive, after all, and the UK is going through a rough patch economically) but definitely the lack of interest in Who merch and the reduced fanbase certainly must have been contributing factors. (I’d be interested in comparing with the status of its North American counterparts such as Sideshow and Hot Toys.)

Whatever the cause, I feel sorry for the people who have been collecting these figures over the years. Cost aside, they were beautifully made. Maybe as part of the liquidation the opportunity may arise for people to obtain, say, Twelve and Clara figures at a discount.

they're actually over a million pounds in debt the pre-order people (like myself) probably won't get paid back and the odds of getting the item are pretty low so much for my sixth scale sixth doctor... and the situation mostly looks like they overextended themselves on promises - using pre-orders on new things to get funds for old orders

last night i had a dream that i was at an outdoor fair and someone asked me to sign a petition and after i signed it they were like thanks so much! go pick out a prize! so i went into their booth and it was filled with hundreds and hundreds of tiny bottles of perfume and all the perfume had names like “i saw you eating greek yogurt at the reptile house at the zoo” and “you cut down the beautiful 100 year old oak tree in your yard” and i looked up and the perfume collection was called “guys i fucking hate”

as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds

Update: The fradulent titles were removed by Goodreads and Amazon under pressure from the author community. However, because there’s a chance this just happened due to the bad publicity, she also linked The Author’s Guild for other authors who might have their names stolen for fake books, but who might not have the connections she has or the luck to go viral.

When we started talking about AI being used to write entire books, this was a twist I honestly did not see coming. The things people come up with…

Author: hey I did not right this, could you not say I wrote this?

Amazon: sorry but you don’t have a copyright on the AI and your name isn’t trade marked so we can’t do that

We are moving into a dystopia and it isn’t even an interesting one(though atleast she was able to get it dealt with from fan backlash at this nonsense)

Reblogging for the first discussion of this matter I’ve seen including the syllable fraud (which I think is long overdue)

  • A local ice cream place offers kaiju blue milkshakes for sale (berry flavored with lime). A sign says that percentage of the profits are donated to kaiju blue poisoning treatment research.
  • If you were in school and lived in a coastal Pacific city during the kaiju war, you had kaiju escape drills.
  • You had PPDC officials come to your school looking for drift compatible students.
  • You know a girl who claims that she can channel the kaiju. She has a small online following who hang on to her every word.
  • Construction projects are delayed or halted in your city as iron is redirected to the jaeger program.
  • Anytime you and your friends say something at the same time, you joke about being drift compatible. Part of you hopes you really are.
  • If you were in college, you considered changing your major to biology or engineering, if it wasn’t that already.
  • You follow several scientists researching kaiju or the breach on social media. Some work for the PPDC, some work for private labs or university labs. Some would host AME sessions. You watch as the scientists working for the PPDC all eventually announce that they’ve been let go and are going to work elsewhere now.
  • You follow several rangers on social media. One by one, they stop posting. Their deaths are announced on the news.
  • People joke about sending the citizens of Philadelphia to fight kaiju. They’re so good at crushing invasive spotted lantern flies, they should be good at destroying kaiju.
  • Scientists announce the discovery of a bacteria that eats kaiju blue. Several more are eventually found all over the world.
